Walking in the Winter Wonderland

GET READY,
HERE IT COMES!
Prepare for the winter, Douglas County

Ready for the big chill? The National Weather Service forecasts it'll be so cold, it'll feel like you forgot your coat and left the house in ice skates.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), meteorologists say the low will fall to 29-degrees in Douglas County/Castle Rock. Thursday, expect it to get 5-degrees colder than that. Friday, the mercury lands at the 17-degree line. Brrrrrr.

Here's a checklist to make sure you're ready for winter:
* Blow out your sprinklers.
*Disconnect hoses attached to the outside of your home.
*Make sure your animals will be warm and have plenty of food and water.
*Make an emergency kit for your car in case it breaks down in the cold. It should include extra food, water, blankets and matches, plus flares and jumper cables. Also include a first aid kit.
*Pack an emergency snow-bag full of gloves, hats, scarves, extra jackets and snow boots for yourself and others who may be stranded in their cars.
*Don't forget snow shovels--and deicing fluid for your car. Check your tires for inflation and your antifreeze levels.
*Experts recommend keeping a tank full of gasoline to avoid water freezing in the fuel line.
*Check on your neighbors after a snow storm, especially the elderly and disabled.
*Inside you home, you should stock up on flashlights, batteries and blankets in case the power goes out. Portable radios will keep you in tune with emergency broadcasts.
*Remember to have extra water and non-perishable food in the house, along with a manual can opener, for power outages.

Along with change of weather, comes a change of fun activities.  We'll be looking for your snow angels and snowmen across Douglas County!  Stay safe and warm...
